New Delhi, February 4, 2008: Digital technology leader, Samsung India today announced the launch of new Ultra Slim and Flat TV models in the Indian market. Three Ultra SlimFit™ models (21A730/29A730/21A530) and two Flat TV models (21A330/29A330) constitute the new Flat TV lineup that has been introduced in the Indian market, reinforcing Samsung’s position as the largest SlimFit™ TV provider in the country. “The new Ultra SlimFit™ models from Samsung are differentiated on account of their innovative design as well as enhanced sound and picture performance”, states Mr. R. Zutshi, Deputy MD, Samsung India Electronics Pvt. Ltd.

The Samsung Ultra SlimFit™ TVs 21A730 and 29A730 score on account of their piano glossy Black Cabinets as well as their sleek and stunning form, which is 40% slimmer than conventional Flat TVs, delivering an astonishing Flat Panel profile. Equipped with Samsung’s patented DNIe technology for enhanced image quality, the new Ultra SlimFit™ 730 and 530 series from Samsung come with a 5 and a 3 Band Graphic Equaliser(21” TV models), Turbo Sound, Game Mode and DVD Input. The built-in turbo sound circuitry adds a surround dimension by boosting the bass sound and offers the ultimate sound experience. While the 29A730 offers a Sound output of 350 Watts, the 21A730 offers a Sound Output of 300 Watts and 21A530 offers a sound output of 250 Watt PMPO. The 21A530, 21A730 and 29A730 are priced at Rs 8900/-, Rs 11000/-and Rs 19500/- respectively.

Along with its Ultra SlimFit™ TV range Samsung has also launched two new flat TVs- 21A330 & 29A330 namely. Samsung PN42C430 Features Review

The 2010 4 series plasmas continue Samsung's affordable 720p plasma line. Most HD programming is still in 720p so the majority of the time you won't be missing out on resolution. All the Samsung plasmas we've tested recently have been impressive so we have high hopes that the 4 series plasmas will provide excellent picture quality for plasma purchasers on a budget.

Features include 2 HDMI inputs, a USB input and SRS TruSurround HD audio processing. A game mode will lessen the effect of the picture processor slowing down inputs, this feature is a must for gamers on an LCD but on a plasma we're not sure it will make much of a difference.

The Samsung C590 series plasma TV contains the same features as the C550 series except that it has a gray touch of color bezel framing and a headphone output jack. This is a fairly simple straightforward model without many extra features. It does have Anynet+, a LAN connection, and the Clear Voice audio feature.

A step up from the 4 series plasmas the 5 series are an affordable line of 1080p plasma TVs from Samsung. The 550 series features a charcoal gray Touh of Color bezel, a full hD 1080p panel that includes Samsung's FilterBright technology for reducing glare and internal reflections and Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer Pro for increased depth in blues and greens. 2 HDMI inputs, SRS TruSurrond HD and a sub 3 inch depth round out the features of this line of plasmas. We were very impressed with the picture quality and asthetics of the 2009 C series plasmas and the 2010 series carries on that tradition.

The 540 series is a stripped down version of the 550 that sacrifices 2 HDMI inputs and any network capability.

Don't look at Samsung's UN46C9000 from the side because you might miss it, this top tier LED TV is an amazing .28 inches in depth. Samsung accomplished this feat by placing all the TV circuit boards, including the tuner in the integrated pedestal stand that also detaches to become a wall mount bracket. At CES 2010 Samsung had yet to implement the tuner into the stand in it's prototype (it was sitting off to the side). Therefore look for a bulkier, more involved stand than the one you see above in the picture. Aesthically, the silver metallic matte finish on the TV was one of our favorite looks of the entire show. This TV really stood out from the crowd.

Continuing the innovation the 9000 series LED TVs come with a touch screen universal remote control that doubles as a second screen. You can check the score of that blowout game you turned off on the remote's screen while you watch a BluRay movie on the TV. This impressive remote also includes both WiFi and infrared technology to work with all your devices.

The UN55C9000's 1080p 240Hz panel is 3D capable and the built in auto-conversion system will present both native 3D images as well as 2D images in 3D. Samsung says they are "forging the future of home entertainment" with the aforementioned features as well as the internet connectivity in the 9000 series. Built in ethernet and wireless capability will allow you to stream content from Samsung partners like Blockbuster, USA Today, Youtube and others. Samsung is also expanding it's Internet@TV service to include more content such as "Samsung Apps" that will be available on everything from mobile phones to HDTVs.

Samsung 19" UN19C4000

The 4 series LED TVs from Samsung are a line of LED edge lit LCD televisions available in much smaller sizes than previously available Samsung LED TVs. From 32" down to 19" the 4 series puts the improved color and contrast, energy usage and slim construction of LED edge lighting into a smaller package. At 720p resolution these smaller LED televisions will also be very affordable.

Although we believe the benefits from new power reduction usage figures for these TVs are overstated and not very relavant (maybe $1 to $2 a month savings on a 46" LCD) - we'll mention them anyway. For the energy conscious Samsung's 2010 LED TV line up uses green design concepts to meet the more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

Up conversion from 480i and 480p: We referred to our trusty Geffen Pictures release of Risky Business DVD to test lower end signals. The Samsung TV’s picture showed up with lots of grain and motion artifacts in 480p on this value oriented Samsung TV. There was a fuzzy non-quality to the up conversion. Red tones were not as vibrant as intended by the original content. Scenes didn’t pop as much as I would have like to have seen - it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The LCD had average clarity after up converting from a 480p source signal.

INTRODUCTION

Panasonic and Samsung have a strong battle going for the top spot in 1st Tier plasma sales and both have alluring new products arriving summer of 2008. The Samsung plasma model tested represents the companies 2nd tier plasma product, while the TH50PZ85U Panasonic plasma is that company’s 3rd tier plasma TV product. However, these two products cost about the same. Both have one or two plamsa’s still to come in 2008 with higher cost and more features.

The Samsung LN46A750 is a current Fall 2008 LCD TV model. This LCD is next to the top of the lineup for Samsung's current model offerings second only to the LN46A850.

PICTURE QUALITY RATING: 93/100

Test and Optimum Viewing Distance: 12 feet

Up conversion from 480i and 480p: Color information from this Samsung TV is natural and realistic and displays extremely well. There is notable motion blur/lag with the LCD regardless whether the 120hz Auto Motion processing is on or off. The jerky effect of the motion lag was evident in Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Risky Business. In other words, it was not an anomaly with any one source. This may not be a result of the upconversion though. Overall I thought the upconversion processing was excellent delivering clear sharp images on even the most difficult old DVDs

Samsung is continuing with a second generation foray into the 58" plasma arena to do battle with Panasonic. This new PN650 series from Samsung is hot looking (and also creates a lot of heat while operating). It's got some very nice feature upgrades over the 550 series by Samsung while not stepping on the price too much – making it a very attractive quality/value play in this size of plasma. The features on the PN58A650 are fairly robust with increased contrast, advanced picture settings, scrolling wheel user interface adjustments, and Samsung's new Touch of Color aesthetics.

The appearance is a black transparent gloss finish with scarlett Touch of Color around the bezel frame. This LCD is next to the top of the lineup for Samsungs current model offerings second only to the LN52A850. Once calibrated, this LCD has a fantastic picture and is packed with features.

The LN52A850 is the newest high end TV in Samsungs Winter 2008/2009 lineup. One of the key feature differences is the new DLNA compliance certification of this TV over the LN52A750. Another big feature difference is the slim 1.9" cabinet housing. It certainly looks sleek on the table stand. The Touch of Color red accents remain on this series. Calibration: Calibration through the menu was easy and the C350 did a nice job calibrating to near D6500K. There are advanced white balance controls included on this TV which is unusual for this price point. There are also many more advanced settings than I would have thought such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, a Gamma setting, and a nifty Flesh Tone setting that will take the onscreen flesh tones from a yellowish to a pinkish appearance at your whim without changing the overall color appearance of the picture much.

Samsung's 2010 4 Series LCDs are a step up from the 3 series. Available in the same sizes they still feature a 60Hz, 720p, CFL backlit panel, with SRS TruSurround HD. They add a third HDMI input, the ability to watch video off a USB thumb drive and Samsung's AnyNet+ which allows communication between similarly equipped Samsung home theater equipment. The 4 Series LCD make for an excellent TV for the bedroom, a child's room or other rooms where you need a smaller, less expensive HDTV.

Test and Optimum Viewing Distance: 8 feet

Calibrating to near D65 was fairly easy. With smaller TVs we are not quite as concerned with pinpoint accuracy to D65. However, the below picture settings will get you close. There are more white balance controls and advanced settings than I anticipated based on size and price, such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, a Gamma setting, and a nifty Flesh Tone setting that will take the onscreen flesh tones from a yellowish to a pinkish appearance at your whim without changing the overall color appearance of the picture much.

The C750 series packs a strong punch with the new 3D TV compatibility feature combined with some of Samsung's best features from the past. Samsung isn't only producing LED backlit LCDs for 2010, the C750 line of CFL backlit LCDs contains many of the features of the more expensive LED TVs at a more affordable price. The C750 uses Samsung's 1080p, 240Hz "Ultra Clear" panel. While we found the motion blur reduction of the AutoMotion Plus 240Hz and 120Hz impressive during sports programming we didn't like the effect it had on picture depth in film programming. Other high hertz rate TVs didn't showcase this issue so we are hopeful that this has been remedied for 2010.

The C650 series from Samsung contains some older upgrade technology features such as CFL backlighting, 3.4" depth, Touch of Color bezel, 120Hz Auto Motion plus and the ultra clear panel. This model falls in the lower to mid range of Samsung's LCD/LED lineup. We thoroughly enjoyed last years B650 series LCD so were happy to review the successor model. And as anticipated, we were very pleased with the results. We hope that Samsung will continue to offer/produce a value oriented CFL backlit LCD TV as their technology contained in these TVs offer exceptional value combined with excellent quality.

While HD programming looked incredible we found a few deficiencies with standard definition programming.

Picture Quality: The Samsung PN58C8000 displays wonderfully balanced color information and uniformity. Images are presented in a clean and clear manner devoid of artifacts, with colors properly saturated. Colors may seem a slightly washed out and weak at first but further viewing reveals them to be extremely accurate and realistic while plenty saturated. We recommend leaving the Motion Judder Controller feature off due to unintended consequences in taking out natural background blur. However, with this feature off we did note some judder/jerky effects in side to side panning scenes – common with most all TVs due to difficulty in converting 3:2 pulldown. Motion related content was extremely smooth and the TV presents an incredibly film like experience

At around $1999 or $2000 whichever way you look at it, this TV is a superb value! Amazing how that one dollar makes it look so much less expensive. This TV has a top notch picture quality with excellent black levels and contrast. Colors are vibrant and pop off the screen giving three dimensional depth to images. A 55" LCD TV by the same manufacturer and same quality level sells for around the same. So you get 3" extra with the plasma and a little better picture. One tough competitor is the LG 60PS60 which is 2 inches larger and priced about $200 more. Panasonic will soon come out with the TC-P58S1. We expect these to be a solid performers as well, though lately Samsung plasma has been ranking better in picture quality.

Samsung is remaining consistent with it's plasma offerings and bringing back the 550 offering which was a big seller last year. We liked it last year and were looking forward to reviewing it again. Some of the features and qualitative measurements were different this year, but we still enjoyed the TV a lot. These lower end Samsung plasma offerings always represent such good value. The HD picture quality was slightly soft but excellent while were weren't all that impressed with standard def programming. There are a few newly added feature sets that we tested as well.

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd (005930.KS), the industry leader for flat-screen TVs, will begin U.S. sales of 46- and 55-inch 3D TVs this month, with other models coming over the next several months.

"It will likely be ardent game players who will first buy 3D TVs as an early adopter," said analyst Alex Oh of Hanwha Securities in Seoul. "In that sense, Sony, which is envisioning a comprehensive entertainment company, will take advantage of its game business, contents and movies, compared with Samsung and LG, which remain focused on hardware."

Sony is vying with LG Electronics Inc (066570.KS) for the position as the world's No. 2 flat TV maker. Many manufacturers hope the technology will be as big a boost for the industry as the transition to color TVs from black and white.

But many consumers have only just bought new high-definition TVs, and analysts say they are unwilling to spend on another upgrade any time soon, especially when viewers must wear special glasses to see images in 3D.

There is also a dearth of 3D programming. Addressing that concern, Samsung said everyone who buys one of its 2010 3D TVs and 3D Blu-ray Player or home theater system will get a kit that includes viewing glasses and a 3D version of "Monsters vs. Aliens," under a deal with DreamWorks Animation SKG Inc (DWA.O).

DreamWorks said its "Shrek" movie series would be available to Samsung 3D customers during the second half of 2010.

Last month, Samsung started offering 3D TVs in South Korea and said it would launch them globally this month, with the aim of selling at least 2 million this year.

Not only has Samsung worked their magic in the Samsung LED LCD TV line, but they have also advanced the LED DLP TV sets in leaps and bounds.

DLP is Texas Instrument's amazing chip that houses millions of microscopic mirrors that can switch states at incredible speeds, offering the best images in projection television (and commercial applications as well) that have ever been seen. That, of course, was until Samsung decided to set the bar even higher.

The older versions of the DLP system used a high power arc lamp as the light source for the DLP system. There was also a spinning color wheel used in those original devices. What Samsung has done with their new line of LED DLP TV technology is to take the best of the old and improve on it greatly.

Instead of using the arc lamp, which is costly to operate (and replace every few years) they use their own LED light source. They've also eliminated the spinning (whining) color wheel, which is one less item to break or wear out. This isn't about changing for the sake of changing though, these changes have resulted in HDTVs that have up to a 40% brighter image, with such brilliant color capability that many high definition sources can't even fully take advantage of the increased color gamut, as of yet anyway.

Of course without the high powered lamp to power on, the Samsung LED DLP TV also has near ly instantaneous startup. Add to that a much lower operating cost by not powering the arc lamp, and the savings that will be realized when you don't have to replace the lamps, and these devices are attractive in so many ways...even including the surprisingly low cost.

Although it's still possible to get a comparable image on the highest priced plasma sets, why pay several times more to do it ? Especially when the plasma tubes have a relatively short life and are on their way to the old technology heap in a very fast way.

Also, Vizio, which has just taken over the number two spot (over Sony) as the largest plasma HDTV supplier in the United States (4th Qtr. 2008), has just announced that they will be discontinuing plasma production in the next few weeks of this writing. I believe that speaks volumes for the future of HDTV.

Samsung Awarded Best in Europe for LCD TV, Home Theatre

Seoul, Korea – August 2007 A Samsung LCD TV, home theatre system, mobile phone and digital camera have all been selected for the prestigious awards from the European Imaging and Sound Association (EISA) this year, each in a different product category.

EISA is the Europe’s largest editorial multimedia organization, boasting fifty member magazines covering audio, mobile electronics, video and photo products in twenty European countries. Each summer, the members convene to select the best products introduced in Europe during the previous twelve months. Five separate panels of experts make the product selections in their respective categories: Audio & Home Theatre (HT), Convergence, Mobile Electronics, Photo and Video.

Samsung makes Skype for new LED lit

Panasonic and LG won't be the only ones with Skype-enabled HDTVs, though we peeped it in the specs earlier, Samsung has officially announced its new 7000 and 8000 series televisions will also include access. Accessible through the embedded Samsung Apps service, it appears it will work with the new HD video processing webcams just like the others, so users can log in to or create an account with the remote then make video or voice calls away from the PC. We heard at CES those cameras could run as high as $200, check out the CES 2010 demo from Panasonic to see if couch videoconferencing is worth the additional expense.

Samsung’s Impossibly Thin 3D TV

LAS VEGAS — If you had any doubt that the big thing in televisions this year will be 3D, then Samsung’s CES press conference would have finally convinced you. The company is throwing its rather large manufacturing weight behind 3D in the home, bringing not just TVs but 3D Blu-ray players and home theater systems into stores this year.

The TVs were the focus today, and consist of LEDs, LCDs and even a plasma model. The star, though, and the one that Jeffrey Katzenberg couldn’t keep his hands off (more on that in a second), was the 9000-series. This 3D TV features a proprietary 3D engine that, like Toshiba’s new sets, can convert 2D video to 3D (although Samsung presented this as a temporary solution until more 3D video is available). The 9000-series will come in screen sizes from 19” to 65”, but that wasn’t why Katzenberg was fingering the thing and gawking at it as the presentation wore on. One look at the photo will tell you the answer — the TVs are thin, as in a third of an inch thin. Turn one of these sideways and it all but disappears. Add to that a gorgeous steel body and you get a TV that even an impossibly rich movie mogul will covet.

Better still, the 9000 series will come with a large touch-screen remote. And why waste that second screen when you aren’t actually doing any controlling? Samsung lets you watch live TV on the remote itself while the big screen continues to play your 3D movie.

Samsung is jumping on the App Wagon, too, and in the spring there will be a range of free apps (they’re not called applications any more) in its own store, called “Samsung Apps”. The store will be open, so anyone can write software for your TV, and paid content will follow in the summer, followed by software for other platforms such as phones.

So why was Katzenberg on stage? Because his company Dreamworks has, along with Technicolor, teamed up with Samsung to get some 3D content onto the televisions. After a rather monotonous speech, he announced the company’s first 3D Blu-ray title, Monsters vs. Aliens. These 3D movies will, he optimistically predicted, “reduce piracy”.

HDTV blur is a common term used to describe a number of different artifacts on modern consumer high-definition television sets.

The following factors are generally the primary or secondary causes of HDTV blur; in some cases more than one of these factors may be in play at the studio or receiver end of the transmission chain.

Pixel response time on LCD displays (blur in the color response of the active pixel)
Slower camera shutter speeds common in Hollywood production films (blur in the content of the film)

Introduction on Samsung HL-S6187W 61-Inch DLP HDTV

So, you want a big screen experience in your home, but a 50-inch plasma won’t quite cut it and you don’t have the Benjamins for something bigger. To make matters worse, your room isn’t quite suited for front projection, or you can’t justify to your significant other why heavy blackout drapes or gray walls is a good idea. What is one to do? Get yourself a rear-projection DLP, that’s what you do. Rear projection DLP HDTVs offer most, if not all, of the features of their plasma and projection brethren with fewer drawbacks and lower prices. Rear projection DLPs come in a wide range of sizes, from 40 inches on up and, thanks to the wizards over at Texas Instruments, they’re shallower than ever, with an average depth around 15 inches, making them easier to place in and about the home. To top it off, rear-projection DLP TVs are way cheaper than their plasma or projection counterparts, save a few manufacturers, giving consumers more of that bang for their bucks.

Take for instance the DLP TV in question for this review, the Samsung HL-S6187W 1080p-capable HDTV. It retails for a mere $2,999, which for a 61-inch HD anything is quite a bargain. Throw in the latest 1080p technology, countless video enhancements and two HDMI inputs, and the Samsung begins to sell itself. At 61 inches (diagonally), the Samsung finds itself in the larger end of the display spectrum, measuring in at 55 inches wide by 38-and-a-half inches tall and 17-and-a-half inches deep and weighing in at a surprisingly light 81 pounds. Still, don't think you can move the thing by yourself. From the front, the Samsung DLP is extremely attractive, with a glossy black finish accented by a thin silver bevel that runs along the bottom of the TV, just under the Samsung nameplate. The silver bezel isn't just a decorative feature; it's actually the opening to the TV's internal speakers, which Samsung calls their "hidden speaker" technology. Clever. Along the lower edge of the "hidden speaker" and off to the right of the TV itself are the manual controls for options such as power, channel up/down, volume and input selection. Turing my attention aft, I was welcomed by a bevy of input options. First and foremost, the Samsung DLP TV features not one but two 1080p-capable HDMI inputs, which support not only digital video signals but digital audio signals as well. For those of you still in the analog realm, there are two sets of component video inputs, as well as two S-video inputs and two composite inputs, with the third located on the side of the TV. There is an RF or coaxial input as well, which takes advantage of the Samsung's internal HDTV tuner for those connecting their antennas or cable boxes directly to the TV. There is also an RGB monitor input, allowing you to connect the Samsung to a PC and use it as your computer monitor. Getting back to its inputs, the Samsung has a full complement of RCA audio ins for each of its video inputs, as well as an optical audio out and a single USB input with a photo viewer interface located on the side of the tv

Sharp's four-color HDTV, Samsung's cheapest 3DTV

This shot courtesy of Mr. Blurrycam might not give the "Oh my." reaction we were expecting from the ads but it appears Sharp's latest and greatest LCDs are showing up at retail, including this 40-inch Quattron model for $1,599. Our man spotted 46- and 55-inch versions as well but if that's not your speed, we also have word that Amazon is shipping the 240Hz Samsung LN46C750 a few weeks ahead of its anticipated May ship date. Sure, it's not a super slim LED model like the rest of the 3D lineup, but at $1,450 (no glasses) it is the cheapest 3DTV we're likely to see anytime soon. Choose wisely.
