Samsung PN58B860

Plasma TV Buying Guide Comments

2009 brings us Samsung's B860 plasmas. These two TVs are the top of line for Samsung in '09 and feature an ultra-thin, one inch deep bezel and built in internet connectivity. No a million to one contrast ratio this time, Samsung is just claiming the PN58B860 will have "mega dynamic contrast" and it remains to be seen just how "mega" it really is. We were impressed with the A650 series last year and are looking forward to getting our hands on the new B860 series.

Some other feature of the PN58B860 are 1080p resolution, 24p film playback, built in ethernet (it's also wifi capable but you'll need to purchase additional hardware) and Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer Pro technology. It also features a new anti-glare screen than Samsung is calling Ultra FilterBright Plus. For the energy conscious the TV will meet the EnergyStar 3.0 specification.

Samsung PN42C430

Samsung PN42C430 Features Review

The 2010 4 series plasmas continue Samsung's affordable 720p plasma line. Most HD programming is still in 720p so the majority of the time you won't be missing out on resolution. All the Samsung plasmas we've tested recently have been impressive so we have high hopes that the 4 series plasmas will provide excellent picture quality for plasma purchasers on a budget.

Features include 2 HDMI inputs, a USB input and SRS TruSurround HD audio processing. A game mode will lessen the effect of the picture processor slowing down inputs, this feature is a must for gamers on an LCD but on a plasma we're not sure it will make much of a difference.

A shot of the C590 with a Blu Ray Test Disc in HD a very detailed colorful image from a Nascar race.

The Samsung C590 series plasma TV contains the same features as the C550 series except that it has a gray touch of color bezel framing and a headphone output jack. This is a fairly simple straightforward model without many extra features. It does have Anynet+, a LAN connection, and the Clear Voice audio feature.

Strengths

  • Audio Volume
  • HD Picture Depth
  • Dark Shadow Detail
  • Good Color Rendition
  • Value/Price

Weaknesses

  • Audio Dialog Quality
  • Standard Definition Processing Artifacts
  • Standard Definition Soft Edges, Not Crisp
  • HD Picture Edges still soft
  • Screen Glare
  • No Internet Options

A step up from the 4 series plasmas the 5 series are an affordable line of 1080p plasma TVs from Samsung. The 550 series features a charcoal gray Touh of Color bezel, a full hD 1080p panel that includes Samsung's FilterBright technology for reducing glare and internal reflections and Samsung's Wide Color Enhancer Pro for increased depth in blues and greens. 2 HDMI inputs, SRS TruSurrond HD and a sub 3 inch depth round out the features of this line of plasmas. We were very impressed with the picture quality and asthetics of the 2009 C series plasmas and the 2010 series carries on that tradition.

The 540 series is a stripped down version of the 550 that sacrifices 2 HDMI inputs and any network capability.

    Samsung UN55C9000 55"

Don't look at Samsung's UN46C9000 from the side because you might miss it, this top tier LED TV is an amazing .28 inches in depth. Samsung accomplished this feat by placing all the TV circuit boards, including the tuner in the integrated pedestal stand that also detaches to become a wall mount bracket. At CES 2010 Samsung had yet to implement the tuner into the stand in it's prototype (it was sitting off to the side). Therefore look for a bulkier, more involved stand than the one you see above in the picture. Aesthically, the silver metallic matte finish on the TV was one of our favorite looks of the entire show. This TV really stood out from the crowd.

Continuing the innovation the 9000 series LED TVs come with a touch screen universal remote control that doubles as a second screen. You can check the score of that blowout game you turned off on the remote's screen while you watch a BluRay movie on the TV. This impressive remote also includes both WiFi and infrared technology to work with all your devices.

The UN55C9000's 1080p 240Hz panel is 3D capable and the built in auto-conversion system will present both native 3D images as well as 2D images in 3D. Samsung says they are "forging the future of home entertainment" with the aforementioned features as well as the internet connectivity in the 9000 series. Built in ethernet and wireless capability will allow you to stream content from Samsung partners like Blockbuster, USA Today, Youtube and others. Samsung is also expanding it's Internet@TV service to include more content such as "Samsung Apps" that will be available on everything from mobile phones to HDTVs.

    Samsung 19" UN19C4000

The 4 series LED TVs from Samsung are a line of LED edge lit LCD televisions available in much smaller sizes than previously available Samsung LED TVs. From 32" down to 19" the 4 series puts the improved color and contrast, energy usage and slim construction of LED edge lighting into a smaller package. At 720p resolution these smaller LED televisions will also be very affordable.

Although we believe the benefits from new power reduction usage figures for these TVs are overstated and not very relavant (maybe $1 to $2 a month savings on a 46" LCD) - we'll mention them anyway. For the energy conscious Samsung's 2010 LED TV line up uses green design concepts to meet the more stringent Energy Star 4.0 requirements.

Up conversion from 480i and 480p: We referred to our trusty Geffen Pictures release of Risky Business DVD to test lower end signals. The Samsung TV’s picture showed up with lots of grain and motion artifacts in 480p on this value oriented Samsung TV. There was a fuzzy non-quality to the up conversion. Red tones were not as vibrant as intended by the original content. Scenes didn’t pop as much as I would have like to have seen - it wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t great either. The LCD had average clarity after up converting from a 480p source signal.

Panasonic and Samsung have a strong battle going for the top spot in 1st Tier plasma sales and both have alluring new products arriving summer of 2008. The Samsung plasma model tested represents the companies 2nd tier plasma product, while the TH50PZ85U Panasonic plasma is that company’s 3rd tier plasma TV product. However, these two products cost about the same. Both have one or two plamsa’s still to come in 2008 with higher cost and more features.

    INTRODUCTION

The Samsung LN46A750 is a current Fall 2008 LCD TV model. This LCD is next to the top of the lineup for Samsung's current model offerings second only to the LN46A850.

    PICTURE QUALITY RATING: 93/100

Test and Optimum Viewing Distance: 12 feet

Up conversion from 480i and 480p: Color information from this Samsung TV is natural and realistic and displays extremely well. There is notable motion blur/lag with the LCD regardless whether the 120hz Auto Motion processing is on or off. The jerky effect of the motion lag was evident in Braveheart, Tomorrow Never Dies, and Risky Business. In other words, it was not an anomaly with any one source. This may not be a result of the upconversion though. Overall I thought the upconversion processing was excellent delivering clear sharp images on even the most difficult old DVDs

    Samsung PN58A650

Samsung is continuing with a second generation foray into the 58" plasma arena to do battle with Panasonic. This new PN650 series from Samsung is hot looking (and also creates a lot of heat while operating). It's got some very nice feature upgrades over the 550 series by Samsung while not stepping on the price too much – making it a very attractive quality/value play in this size of plasma. The features on the PN58A650 are fairly robust with increased contrast, advanced picture settings, scrolling wheel user interface adjustments, and Samsung's new Touch of Color aesthetics.

    Samsung LN52A750

The Samsung LN52A750 is a current Fall/Winter 2008 LCD TV model which includes non-detachable hidden speakers, 3 HDMI inputs and a 15 pin computer input. The appearance is a black transparent gloss finish with scarlett Touch of Color around the bezel frame. This LCD is next to the top of the lineup for Samsungs current model offerings second only to the LN52A850. Once calibrated, this LCD has a fantastic picture and is packed with features.

    Samsung LN52A850

The LN52A850 is the newest high end TV in Samsungs Winter 2008/2009 lineup. One of the key feature differences is the new DLNA compliance certification of this TV over the LN52A750. Another big feature difference is the slim 1.9" cabinet housing. It certainly looks sleek on the table stand. The Touch of Color red accents remain on this series. The 120Hz refresh rate (Auto Motion Plus) feature is still present as well. Find out below how we rate all these features (one especially needs be careful with the 120Hz refresh rate).

Calibration: Calibrating white balance was somewhat difficult on this . Blue tones were especially difficult to dial in perfectly as they lacked consistency. Calibration: The Samsung B650 was fairly calibration friendly without going into the service menu. There was a hitch at 40 ire but the TV performed well at 30 and 50 ire so this should not be an issue when viewing. The standard setting has a major blue push. The Movie setting allows adjustment of all picture setting options.

Calibration: Calibration through the menu was easy and the C350 did a nice job calibrating to near D6500K. There are advanced white balance controls included on this TV which is unusual for this price point. There are also many more advanced settings than I would have thought such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, a Gamma setting, and a nifty Flesh Tone setting that will take the onscreen flesh tones from a yellowish to a pinkish appearance at your whim without changing the overall color appearance of the picture much.

Samsung's 2010 4 Series LCDs are a step up from the 3 series. Available in the same sizes they still feature a 60Hz, 720p, CFL backlit panel, with SRS TruSurround HD. They add a third HDMI input, the ability to watch video off a USB thumb drive and Samsung's AnyNet+ which allows communication between similarly equipped Samsung home theater equipment. The 4 Series LCD make for an excellent TV for the bedroom, a child's room or other rooms where you need a smaller, less expensive HDTV.

Test and Optimum Viewing Distance: 8 feet

Calibrating to near D65 was fairly easy. With smaller TVs we are not quite as concerned with pinpoint accuracy to D65. However, the below picture settings will get you close. There are more white balance controls and advanced settings than I anticipated based on size and price, such as Black Tone, Dynamic Contrast, a Gamma setting, and a nifty Flesh Tone setting that will take the onscreen flesh tones from a yellowish to a pinkish appearance at your whim without changing the overall color appearance of the picture much.

    Samsung LN46C750

The C750 series packs a strong punch with the new 3D TV compatibility feature combined with some of Samsung's best features from the past. Samsung isn't only producing LED backlit LCDs for 2010, the C750 line of CFL backlit LCDs contains many of the features of the more expensive LED TVs at a more affordable price. The C750 uses Samsung's 1080p, 240Hz "Ultra Clear" panel. While we found the motion blur reduction of the AutoMotion Plus 240Hz and 120Hz impressive during sports programming we didn't like the effect it had on picture depth in film programming. Other high hertz rate TVs didn't showcase this issue so we are hopeful that this has been remedied for 2010.

    Samsung LN55C650

The C650 series from Samsung contains some older upgrade technology features such as CFL backlighting, 3.4" depth, Touch of Color bezel, 120Hz Auto Motion plus and the ultra clear panel. This model falls in the lower to mid range of Samsung's LCD/LED lineup. We thoroughly enjoyed last years B650 series LCD so were happy to review the successor model. And as anticipated, we were very pleased with the results. We hope that Samsung will continue to offer/produce a value oriented CFL backlit LCD TV as their technology contained in these TVs offer exceptional value combined with excellent quality.

    Samsung PN58C6500

First we start off with an aesthetically stunning TV model in the C6500. At 1.8" depth and subtle Touch of Color looks this model looks high end through and through. It adds the Samsung Internet Applications and a few other features while forgoing the expensive 3D ready option. It falls right in the center of Samsung's plasma TV offerings for 2010/2011. While HD programming looked incredible we found a few deficiencies with standard definition programming.

    Samsung PN63C6500

The C6500 line of 2010 Samsung plasmas will provide many of the features of the higher lines at a more affordable price point. While not 3D capable the C6500 series does feature Samsung's 1080p Clear Image Panel in a Black Touch of Color bezel. The slim depth gives the C6500 plasmas a stylish look whether it's on the square swivel stand or mounted on the wall.

The C6500 series comes with 4 HDMI inputs, 2 USB ports and a built in ethernet port for access to Samsung's Internet@TV service. Wireless DLNA capability rounds out the connectivity features of this plasma tv.

Samsung is expanding their Internet@TV service to add streaming content from Blockbuster, Netflix USA Today and VUDU video on demand as well as access to services such as Twitter, Picasa, AccuWeather, Pandora and more through the built-in ethernet connection or optional WiFi.

    Samsung PN50C7000

Samsung's C7000 line up of plasmas for 2010 feature 1080p Clear Image Panels in a Brushed Black Touch of Color bezel. These televisions are 3D ready like many of the TVs at CES this year. Though we are still on the "wait and see" bandwagon when it comes to 3D TV, it's readily apparent that the manufacturers are fully on board with 3D this year. That said we've been very impressed with the picture performance of recent Samsung plasma TVs,

Samsung's proprietary 3D enabled system allows compatibility with multiple 3D formats to provide access to 3D content from many sources. As we note often, the TV will obviously perform regular two dimensional duties, but is enabled for 3D should you introduce some 3D content.

    Samsung PN50C8000

I've been reviewing flat screen TVs and specifically plasma TVs since year 2000 when they first entered the market. Back then 95% were used in the commercial display market for board rooms and computer display needs, some were for stores.

I expected great things from the top of the line Samsung plasma C8000 series and what did I get? In a word, satisfaction.

The PN50C8000 represents the top of the line for Samsung's 2010 plasma lineup and includes all the upgrade features such as 3D compatibility, the best picture processors, thin 1.4" depth, great Internet options, and stellar picture quality. See below

    Samsung PN58C8000

The PN58C8000 represents the top of the line for Samsung's 2010 plasma lineup and includes some fantastic upgrade features including 3D compatibility, sleek sophisticated aesthetics, a superb new remote control, a thorough Internet Suite, and excellent picture quality.

Picture Quality: The Samsung PN58C8000 displays wonderfully balanced color information and uniformity. Images are presented in a clean and clear manner devoid of artifacts, with colors properly saturated. Colors may seem a slightly washed out and weak at first but further viewing reveals them to be extremely accurate and realistic while plenty saturated. We recommend leaving the Motion Judder Controller feature off due to unintended consequences in taking out natural background blur. However, with this feature off we did note some judder/jerky effects in side to side panning scenes – common with most all TVs due to difficulty in converting 3:2 pulldown. Motion related content was extremely smooth and the TV presents an incredibly film like experience

    Samsung PN58B550 Plasma

At around $1999 or $2000 whichever way you look at it, this TV is a superb value! Amazing how that one dollar makes it look so much less expensive. This TV has a top notch picture quality with excellent black levels and contrast. Colors are vibrant and pop off the screen giving three dimensional depth to images. A 55" LCD TV by the same manufacturer and same quality level sells for around the same. So you get 3" extra with the plasma and a little better picture. One tough competitor is the LG 60PS60 which is 2 inches larger and priced about $200 more. Panasonic will soon come out with the TC-P58S1. We expect these to be a solid performers as well, though lately Samsung plasma has been ranking better in picture quality.

Samsung is remaining consistent with it's plasma offerings and bringing back the 550 offering which was a big seller last year. We liked it last year and were looking forward to reviewing it again. Some of the features and qualitative measurements were different this year, but we still enjoyed the TV a lot. These lower end Samsung plasma offerings always represent such good value. The HD picture quality was slightly soft but excellent while were weren't all that impressed with standard def programming. There are a few newly added feature sets that we tested as well.

    Samsung's Monster 65-Inch 3D LED LCD TV

The UN65C8000 features 240Hz refresh, Samsung's 3D processor, and built-in Wi-Fi to access Samsung Apps like Hulu and ESPN. Of course, with great size comes great expense—you'll have to drop $6,000 to bring one of these home. And while it's nice that Samsung's throwing in two pairs of 3D glasses and an exclusive How To Train Your Dragon 3D BD as part of their 3D starter kit, something tells me that doesn't offset the price enough to ease much of the sting.

On the 3D plasma TV side, Samsung's outing two higher-end models to complement the sub-$1000 PN50C490. The 58-inch PN58C680 and 50-inch PN50C680 will be available this month for $2300 and $1600 respectively

    Samsung PN50B550 TV Analysis

The Samsung PN50B550 has extremely complete calibration alternatives for this cost range with white balance controls. The Television calibrated well with a low error rate after adjusting white balance. Tint required unusual adjustments to dial the set in perfectly to D6500. Follow the following image settings to calibrate:

This signal test will show you how the Television will perform with your digital cable or satellite signal in addition to normal ole non blue ray DVDs. Up conversion processing was slightly fuzzy using a slight grain apparent from a 480i source signal. The Samsung PN50B550 will replace with any deficiency in definition with accentuated color information. That said, color rendition is still pleasing and realistic. 1 slight drawback would be watching dark content material inside a brightly lit room. The Samsung B550 presents a really true, well calibrated but darker image and this combination darker written content and brighter room light may possibly cause some eyestrain. Solve the trouble temporarily by turning the contrast up to 100%.

In a darker, controlled light room environment this Tv will absolutely stun you with its high quality image. It calibrates incredibly nicely, colors are healthily saturated and black levels/contrast make it shine with HD content. It was awesome with all HD written content tested. And of course there’s no motion lag and perfect viewing angles with plasma TVs so no issues there to even mention.

Black registered a really impressive .06 average luminance in our contrast ratio test. It’s impressive and inky and you notice it with nearly all content material. The Pioneer KURO blacks were world renowned, but this is close. Post calibration ANSI checkerboard contrast measured one of the better recent results at a heroic 1383:1.

Even though blacks are intense, dark shadow detail was not impaired by oversaturation – an superb result with all written content.

    Samsung 9000 Series

The 9000 sequence finally produced an look at CES 2010, and it is gone through some large changes since we very first profiled it way back in April 2009. Like just about every high-end model announced at CES, it truly is 1080p, 240Hz, local-dimming LED, WiFi-ready (Netflix streaming! Samsung app store!), and supports 3D with active shutter glasses. It is about as thick as a No. 2 pencil (0.3 inches) and like Toshiba’s Cell Tv, can upconvert 2D programming up into the third dimension.

The correct pièce de résistance is the complete color touchscreen remote. It communicates by way of WiFi and infrared, works since the middle man to stream video from your PC towards the Tv, and—here’s the best part—lets you watch Television within the palm of the hand even while something else is playing on the display. Girlfriend watching a chicky movie whilst the ballgame is on? Watch about the remote.

This brushed-metal monster is just about the coolest thing we’ve heard of inside young new year. Check back frequently—we’ll have the street date, price, and all of the product info as quickly as its released.

It turns out that they did, but Samsung renamed them 8500 prior to they shipped. The 8500s don’t contain a wireless A/V media box, which we reported would come while using 9000 collection (this detail was only a rumor, according to a Samsung representative). Other than that, the 8500s are exactly the same as what the 9000s would have been.

Without that field, the new versions really aren’t that much several than the 8000s, so Samsung decided to brand them inside the 8 Series. The 8500s do have backlit-LEDs for localized dimming, where the 8000s use Edge LED backlighting, but it looks like they’ll wait for one point extra groundbreaking to bust out the 9 Collection tag.

    samsung 3D tv

Samsung Electronics announced Wednesday it had started mass production of screens for 3D LED TVs and 3D LCD TVs, a bold move forward in a technology some analysts say is too expensive for most people and could take time to become mainstream.

Samsung is the world's largest maker of flat display screens, and putting new technologies into mass production is the first step in lowering prices. The more a company makes, the less they cost per-unit.

"Recently, 3D displays have captured the industry spotlight. Samsung Electronics aims to lead the global 3D TV panel market in pioneering mass production for 3D LED and LCD TVs," the company said in a statement.

The company began producing 3D-compatible LED and LCD screens for 40-inch, 46-inch and 55-inch full-HD 3D TVs this month, it said.

Several companies announced 3D-ready TVs at the International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas early this month, making it one of the most talked about product categories at the show. The popularity of James Cameron's 3D film, "Avatar," which recently surpassed "Titanic" as the highest-grossing box office hit ever, fueled much of the hype and led some companies to predict that millions of 3D TVs will be sold by the end of this year

    samsung lcd review

The overall decline in LCD TV shipments is normal for that quarter, noted iSuppli, as sales typically peak during the fourth-quarter holiday season before falling to the lowest point of the year. Many manufacturers also use the first quarter to clear out stock of older models to pave the way for new ones.

Despite the drop in shipments, the industry saw rising demand for TVs with advanced features, including LED-backlighting, Internet connectivity, and 3D, all trends that Samsung managed to capitalize on.

"The year 2010 marks a major transition period for the U.S. LCD-TV market, when consumers increasingly are gravitating toward sets with more advanced features," Riddhi Patel, iSuppli's principal analyst for television systems, said in a statement. "With Samsung at the forefront of trends including LED backlighting and 3D, the company has been able to outperform the market and its closest competitors."

The introduction of new models with advanced features did boost the average price for an LCD TV to $830, up 7 percent from $774 in the fourth quarter. The increase was notable, according to iSuppli, since prices tend to drop from one quarter to the next.

    samsung 200hz technology

Samsung LCD TVs weren't the first to offer 200-hertz technology - this honor goes to the manufacturer's panel-production partner, Sony - but Samsung is hard on Sony's heels. The technology is intended to eliminate the weaknesses of older LCD TVs - in particular, the frequent motion blur. Besides top electronics, however, the TVs also need fast, responsive panels. Compared to older models, current liquid-crystal displays switch much more quickly from light to dark - and back. Without this added speed, the so-called "Motion Plus" technology would be totally ineffective.

200 Hz Motion Plus generates 200 images per second, which is no easy task - TV channels (or DVD players) only deliver 25 per second. And, to complicate matters further, these 25 images appear not intact but, rather, split up into 50 "interlaced" images. To put it more clearly: A TV camera records images in horizontal lines. First, it records the uneven-numbered lines - first, third, fifth, and so on. These form the first interlaced image. The second interlaced image then consists of all the even-numbered lines - 2, 4, 6, and so on. One 50th of a second elapses between the recording of these two images, meaning a rolling football, for example, will be in a different position in the two images. This "interlacing" method of capturing images causes no bother on tube-based TVs.

    samsung 8000 series

The features of the 8000 series are identical to those of the 7000 series, except that this more expensive range has 200-hertz technology. Like their fluorescent-tube relatives from series 7, the 8000-series TVs actually generate 200 images per second. And, once again: from September, models whose names include "WP" will support CI Plus.

    Samsung LCD UE 40 B 8000, 40 inches (102 cm), 1,350 GBP
    Samsung LCD UE 46 B 8000, 46 inches (117 cm), 1,650 GBP

    samsung LED backlight

In its top LCD models, Samsung has replaced the fluorescent lamps mounted behind the screen with side-mounted light-emitting diodes (LEDs). This reduces power consumption and allows for much slimmer construction than with other flat-panel TVs. The different technology has little effect, however, on the picture. Samsung's use of the term "LED TV" for models using this type of backlight causes unnecessary confusion: These are and will always be LCD TVs.

    samsung 5 series

The 5 series contains the entry-level Samsung LCD TVs - and, with 15 models, it offers plenty of variety. Within the series, the products branch off further - here, therefore, we'll look at the individual varieties separately.

    Samsung LCD: Series B 530
These are the cheapest models in the Samsung LCD series. The screens provide Full HD resolution (1,920 x 1,080 pixels), and the tuners accept analog cable TV, digital terrestrial, and digital cable (DVB-T/DVB-C) - for digital signals, also in high definition. They do not, however, support the forthcoming CI Plus encryption process - depending on the country of operation and the local cable operators, the TV will might fail to display certain digital channels.

    Samsung LCD LE 37 B 530, 37 inches (94 cm), 550 GBP
    Samsung LCD LE 40 B 530, 40 inches (102 cm), 500 GBP
    Samsung LCD LE 46 B 530, 46 inches (117 cm), 650 GBP

    Samsung LCD: Series B 541
For screen-diagonals of 32 inches or more, this sub-series provides Full HD resolution, and all the models in the series come in white instead of the black casings of the 530-series. The rest of the technology, however, matches that of the 530 series.

    samsung 6 series

Among the classical Samsung LCD TV series, this is the upper mid-range. Here, again, the series includes a number of sub-series. The B 620 series offers the cheapest of the Korean manufacturer's TVs with 100-hertz technology. The tuner accepts DVB-T and DVB-C (both also in high definition), and a USB port allows playback of photos and music. The screens have Full HD resolution and, from September onward, are also supposed to support CI Plus. Again, the only way to tell if a model is of the new type is to check the exact model number: Instead of "WWXXC", it should end in "WPXXC".

    Samsung LCD LE 40 B 620, 40 inches (102 cm), 700 GBP
    Samsung LCD LE 46 B 620, 46 inches (117 cm), 940 GBP
    Samsung LCD LE 52 B 620, 52 inches (132 cm), 1,430 GBP

Samsung's B 650 series combines some more unusual screen sizes. In fact, the series' features even vary from one model to another. The 19- and 22-inch models only have 50-hertz technology, 1,366 x 768 pixels resolution, and - apart from a digital tuner for cable and terrestrial signals - no fancy extras.

The models with a screen-diagonal of 32 inches or more provide a significantly richer set of features. 100 Hz Motion Plus aims to display moving objects precisely, and the USB and network connections allow the TVs to play back a multitude of multimedia file-types. Additionally, the devices can access internet services from Samsung and its partner Yahoo. This autumn, the tuners will gain CI Plus support - the new model numbers will have "WP" instead of "WW".

In some European markets there is a "B 651" version of the series, with a transparent-red frame, as well as a B 652 series with no multimedia technology. In red, the latter is known as the B 653.

    samsung 7000

The 7000 series builds upon the features offered by the 6000-series models. There's no difference in the tuners and video technology, but the 7000-series TVs can play back various kinds of multimedia files via USB or over a network. Furthermore, the TVs can access internet services provided by Samsung and its partner Yahoo. For CI Plus, the same applies here as does for the 6000 series (above).

In some European countries, the 7020 models are called "7090" because of differing terms in the guarantee; many models in this series also come in red, in which case their names end in "7000".

    current lcd tvs

Korean company Samsung has worked its way up from the status of derided budget-manufacturer to become one of the world's largest producers of TVs. Liquid-crystal displays (LCDs) dominate Samsung's product range, and these panels are produced by "S-LCD", a Samsung-Sony joint-venture. At the same time, however, Samsung continues to produce plasma TVs. The Samsung LCD range varies more widely than with other brands. Televisions.com has taken the time to collect all of the information relevant to the United Kingdom as accurately as possible. Some varieties, however, are not available in all countries

    samsung internet tv

The internet has become an indispensable part of everyday life: We buy goods online, watch TV online, and correspond via email or instant messaging. But, until recently, this technology was limited to the computer screen — hardly a relaxed place to enjoy a film or to browse for new music. Bringing the content to the living-room screen was an obvious next step.

Samsung groups its internet offerings under the term “Internet@TV”. If you connect a Samsung TV such as the ultra-flat Samsung UE 40 B 7000 to the internet via a router, it can access so-called Yahoo “widgets”. All you have to do is press the remote control’s “Internet@TV” button.

This calls up a set of symbols along the bottom of the screen — giving direct access to YouTube videos, news from Yahoo, and the online photo-sharing service Flickr, for example. Flickr allows you to display your own photo albums on the TV screen, as well as public albums made by other users. Yahoo news appears alongside the current TV programme, and is especially practical if you want to quickly get up to speed during an ad break, for example. YouTube videos, on the other hand, fill the screen — and don’t allow you to use a second application at the same time.

Samsung must first approve any service that will appear in the widget bar. One thing Samsung does not offer, however, is a web browser. This would allow users to access normal websites — as they can with Philips’ “Net TV”, for example.
